AMBER S. HAWKINS attended the University of Findlay (formerly known as Findlay College) with a dual BA in Spanish and Social Work. Extracurricular activities included member of the Student Government, Secretary of the Black Student Union, and one of the few African-American disc jockeys for the college radio station WLFC-FM. Known as “Sweet Ambi,.”
She later attended the University of Toledo where she earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology—Human Resources Specification.
She was advised by a friend to attend ASSETS Toledo—a 13-week training program for individuals who wanted to become small business owners. After graduation she used $1,000 of unemployment money, a wing, and prayer to birth Your Computer Needs of Toledo, LLC on January 1, 2005. Throughout her journey and ups and downs, certifications attained include the State of Ohio Minority Business Enterprise, the Microsoft MOS Master Instructor, and Federal certification via Central Contractor Registration.
She’s in the midst of celebrating six years of performing various tasks from Level 1 troubleshooting to keyboard training, from one-on-one to small group computer training, and from grant/proposal writing assistance to Internet research reports. Since mid-July 2009 she became known as “Ms. Computer Lady”.
